Another one of the best commentaries ever recorded. McBride does a truly remarkable job: instead of doing the usual toss of random trivia/digressions, he offers a candid and insightful in-depth analysis of every aspect of the movie under the sun - cinematic, technical, dramatic, psychological, cultural, spiritual/religious - despite, as a minor drawback, also briefly showing the common Film Historian proneness to find phallic symbols in the most unexpected places. Plus, he also manages to talk about Golden Age "dinosaur" Leo McCarey, a great and underrated director about whom it's not very easy to find information.
Marni Nixon, given the separately-recorded and edited nature of this track, has a minor presence, but speaks very interestinlgy about the process involved in her contribution to the movie, and near the end makes very lucid and warm remarks about talent at the time of the movie and today.
