This is without exception my favorite commentary. Anthony Minghella does more than illuminate the themes and details of the filming...he actually expands your understanding of the art itself. Filled with personal stories, scene specific details and overall philosophy, he takes you in not only the filming but the very experience from book to screen. Mellifluous voice, expansive vocabulary and an engaging and humble demeanor. This one I've returned to.
Commentary 2: Writer/director Anthony Minghella, producer Saul Zaentz, and novelist Michael Ondaatje Rating:8.0/10 (3 votes) [graph]Login to vote or review

having listened to Minghella's commentary on 'Ripley' I opted for the multiple-speaker track instead, hoping for a less dense listen. Unfortunately Minghella dominates the commentary entirely. that's not a bad thing. He is, as the previous reviewer said, a very engaging and informative speaker... almost too much so. it's exactly what a commentary should be, but if you didn't love the film as I did then it doesn't go down as easy, that's all.
