This is one of the better commentaries I've heard for an animated film. Selick and the animators give good insights into the creation of the effects and the effort put into the animation - though they do tend to sound a little sorry for themselves at times. It would also have been nice to have heard from Tim Burton as to the origins of the characters and story, especially as the Special Edition DVD contains Burton's very first short film, "Vincent", which has a similarly dark theme. However, the commentary is informative and pretty entertaining overall.

I agree. It's all Tim Burton's idead for the film, I would also like to hear Danny Elfman's thought about the score and songs.

There is a new commentary by Burton, Elfman and Selick.

They were recorded separately. Burton talks about the inspiration for the movie, the characters, the tone, the script and working with Disney. Elfman has a lot to say about the songs, the singers and his collaboration with Burton. Selick’s part is the animation and how he got in touch with Burton. There are no gaps.

This is a solid commentary with a lot of information. 8 out of 10.
