Surprise -- a scholar commentary that is actually, genuinely playful. The guy doesn't just admire this movie -- which he clearly does -- he actually likes it, too. There is a lot of falling back into describing what is happening onscreen, but he presents it as, "what's this? what a bizarre thing! what shall we make of this?" sort of playful tone. Also presents a fair bit of useful information to help interepret the film, and does a marvelous job of summing up Bergman's life leading up to and during the writing and production processes. Worthwhile.

You call it playful; I call it incoherent. Gervais just didn't have his thoughts together, and all that "what's this?" crap was like nails on a blackboard. He seemed to think he was talking to a class of five-year-olds.

Its a pity one of the best and most enigmatic movies of all time have such a bad commentary.
