Although not as hilarious as this severely underrated "spoof" comedy, the commentary is really fun. David O' Malley, the writer, fills us in on all of the references found throughout "Instinct." They range from everyone's favorite film noirs, to such Julia Roberts' "Classics" like "Sleeping with the Enemy," and "Pretty Woman." Reiner, a comedy legend in his own right, amiably points out cameos and provides some insight into the making-of. There are some silent stretches, but the atmosphere is pleasant. They do a nice job of showing which stunts the stars wanted to do themselves, and impressively, did. I was devastated to learn the original title, while brilliant, was scrapped due to litigation concerns. That's too bad, because "Triple Indemnity" might have done better at the box office.
