Schickel is interesting but Hickman comes across as a bore, being disdainful of Gene Tierney and seemingly unaware of one of the cruel real life ironies of her playing her role.

Hickman is Mr. Inside on this commentary. He's there to discuss his experiences making the film. He had a negative experience with Tierney and with director John Stahl. He had a positive experience with Cornell Wilde and Chill Wills. He discusses these in detail along with other on-set aspects of the film's making. As an acting teacher, he also has strong opinions about his castmates acting abilities. Granted it is surprising that he is still not fully aware of Tierney's off-screen emotional turmoils, but I don't think it would change his appraisal much. Schickel is Mr. Outside here, providing background information on the cast and director and context for the film. Between the two of them, it makes for a very effective commentary track.
