As a 12-year old kid, when the original "Sandlot" was released, I loved playing pickup baseball with my friends in the neighborhood. So, "Smalls", "Squints", and the "Beast" hold a special place in my heart. Since there has yet to be a Director's Commentary for his first installment, Director Evans' track here will have to suffice. What's great is that there are some funny and insightful anecdotes about "The Sandlot" from 1993. Everything from filming techniques and locations, to casting and writing. However, the remainder of the track is devoted to the sequel on the screen. Which is fine, because David M. Evans leaves no room for "Dead Air." A veritable "how-to" on moviemaking with limited resources (Small Budget, Vancouver locations, a 20! Day Shooting schedule). The commentary, like the sequel, is a sweet, inoffensive, narrative about filmmaking and mining those Sepia-toned memories from the past. All in the pursuit of Storytelling. I recommend the disc for the track, but absolutely implore "SandLot" fans to access the "Where are they Now?" feature to get some fun stories from the Director and the kid actors from the Original. This is as close to a "Special Edition" as we are going to get. 7/10 Track 10/10 "The Sandlot Gang- Then & Now."
