Bogdanovich does most of the talking here, with occasional played excerpts from a 1965 interview he did with Lang. Bogdanovich is scene-specific but pauses, and has the annoying habit of repeating lines of dialogue. Otherwise he comments on Clifford Odets, Lang and his Hollywood blacklisting, locations, the documentary footage and montages, casting and performance, camerawork and photography, actor blocking, character, film noir motifs, costumes, silent film technques, changes from the play, and the ambiguous ending. Most interesting points cover Marilyn Monroe's difficulties during shooting, Barbara Stanwyck's lack of criticism of her, and what Bogdanovich sees as the film's weaknesses.
