Thankfully the author, and screenwriter, Peter Hedges is along for this 2 hour track. He contributes nicely to the commentary, while we are treated to the acting performances of Leo and Johnny Depp. The Director is mostly quiet, with some infrequent musings about "mistakes" in direction he would avoid today. It's been awhile since either saw the film. Hedges learned quite a bit about writing and filmmaking (he later filmed "Pieces of April) during the shoot in Texas (for Iowa). It's nice to have the writer along for this rather personal story. The mother, a construct for the book/film, was played by a real woman the creators saw on "Sally Jesse Raphael." I'd recommend this track for fans of '90s cinema, and the actors, who would go on to such bigger and brighter stages.
