The commentary track with Brett Ratner and the 2 writers was so poor for one reason- the writers. They are annoying men. It takes a lot of patience to fight through their banter and hear what the director has to say. It would have been so much better to just hear Ratner talk because what he had to say was very interesting and entertaining. These 2 writers are just so into themselves it ruins anything intelligent they have to say. From complementing each other and themselves constantly from begining to end, to arguing over who wrote what line the character just spoke, to one of them going off on a story about their uncle (I kid you not), their inside jokes with each other, their sarcasm, it was awful. It was nice to hear Ratner talk about the film and he said some interesting things about the story and characters and making of. They need to just stick to writing and not doing commentary, especially if they approach it with an attitude like they did.

I would certainly agree with all the points made in the above review and add that Ratner also gushes endlessly about the actors’ performances and even congratulates himself. The tone of this track has a tendency to be too self-congratulatory which makes it very hard to listen to for any length of time.

Dull commentary more interested in praising bad performances and discussing the FX and stunts. To many cheap jokes fly about and the writers seem to destroy any chance of the director getting a solid word in. Poor show

Not as good as Singers commentaries, but not awful. They do talk about what direction Ratner wanted to go in and where he diverted from Singers path, wich is interesting. More backpatting than is necesarry though and it comes off as a bit unfocused.

I have to agree with the other reviewers - as odd as it is to say, this commentary would've been a lot stronger had it just been Ratner.
FUN FACTS:
-Brett specifically asked the writers if there was anything from previous movies that they *wanted* to do but *couldn't* do that the fans would love to have in the movie. And that's why the opening scene is a Danger Room simulation with a Sentinel.
-Brett was a comic book fan but not an X-Men fan prior to the movie.
-"I got some hate mail on why Rogue and Wolverine didn't hook up." - Brett

Producers Avi Arad, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Ralph Winter

Not surprisingly, they talk about the production side of things and spend time pointing out key crew members. They justify the limited screen time of some actors, like James Marsden, by explaining that he was shooting Superman Returns at the time and so his role had to be diminished. They praise the cast and spend a lot of time saying things like “great stunts” and pointing out the continuity with X2 (“Same wheelchair,” Donner says at one point). Yawn.

Though not as good as in previous instalments, I dont thinks it's as bad as the previous reviewers suggests. It's still a pretty informative and good-spirited track. If your a fan of the film series I'd recommend it.

As I mentioned on a previous "X-Men" movie track, I personally find the Producer commentaries to be better than the Director commentaries.
It's interesting to note that Ralph Winter and Avi Arad were okay with the idea of Rogue taking the cure at the end of the movie, but Lauren was adamently against it.
They describe how Brett brought a faster pace and more humour to the films than Bryan did.
