Herzog is fascinating, explaining the way he met so many non-actors and gave them parts. For instance the pimps were real pimps in the real world, so they hardly needed to act at all. They even told Herzog they could get one one they had bullied and bully him the same way in the film, making it totally realistic. It was so interesting to learn that the scruffy apartment used in the film was the actual apartment belonging to the lead character- and his story (23 years in a lunatic asylum) is so important. How someone rated it as zero is beyond me.
