In a nice touch, Verhoeven talks considerably about the characters and how they have been taken from real life stories of the Dutch Resistance and woven into the fabric of his film. As long you can understand him, Verhoeven's track is good, discussing character, story, ideology and filmmaking technique. The commentary is good enough to make you want to watch the film again and see how the filmmakers have carefully plotted the film. The commentary subtitle is quite helpful and tracks every UM and ER that Verhoeven makes.
