More good than not, but Milla Jovovich strays into the annoying side when she is in control of the discussion. Worth one listen, but not a lot of repeat value.

Director Paul Anderson at least scores points for ATTEMPTING to discuss the film they’re watching, while the two vaccuous harpies seated next to him discuss what parties they’re going to, how good they look, how “gross” or “cool” the gore is on-screen and contribute utterly NOTHING to the experience while frequently cutting off Anderson mid-sentence, from which he never recovers his thoughts. You can only imagine the low-class caterwauling that occurs when Milla’s crotch flashes across the screen at the film's, ahem, climax. Avoid this track at all costs!

As an aside to my previous review, here's Michelle Rodriguez from the Resident Evil commentary:

"Oohhh, twat shot!"

Style, baby, real style.

Milla Jovovich is REALLY annoying in this track. Paul Anderson frequently starts to say something that has potential, but is interuppted again and again by Milla Jovovich. I gave up in the end to save the life of my DVD disc (was close to ripping it in pieces :))

This is probably the first time I've seen all reviews for a certain movie go the same way.

Funny stuff.

But, yes--it is true: Milla Jovovich kills this track. Literally, she kills it; it is gone, and will never come back. A shame really; I was looking forward to hearing Milla's thoughts on acting and Hollywood, instead, I got a dunce who had to have the idea behind a commentary EXPLAINED to her; "You mean we talk for the whole movie?!"

Then you have the constant bitching about people mispronouncing her name--which is kind of funny when you realize these people have worked with her for months now, and they had no idea that they were mispronouncing her name.

Milla Jovovich should be barred for all time from ever appearing on another DVD special feature. Why?:

Paul Anderson: "So this is where I used a crane sh--

Milla J: "Oh my god! That is the guy I busted with an axe! I can't believe he was mad that I injured him--stupid guy!"

This is why.

Jovovich and Rodriguez joke and loudly shout over each other while Anderson and Bolt feebly try to keep on topic. Good luck, guys. Jovovich does little to dispel the dumb model stereotype as she talks randomly about watching Life of Brian on DVD (?!) only to realize that she is doing a commentary for Resident Evil six minutes into it! Scary stuff indeed.

I will say that the actresses did have a good level of knowledge of the computer games on which the movie is based, so they do make some interesting contributions. There is a lot of people talking over each other, and totally irrelevant chatter; but there is plenty of interesting stuff too. And the commentary is unlike many film commentaries, which all too often seem like they shut a guy in a darkened room for 2 hours to talk about the film; there's plenty of energy in it, even if much of it is misdirected.

This is one of the greatest commentaries I have ever heard, it will take you deep into the minds of Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez, a place that is scary and hilarious at the same time. if one is looking insight about how the movie was made, well one will not find it here. however, one will find Milla and Michelle make funny of one of their fellow actor's obsession with yogurt and once the insanity starts it iwll never stop. one will start to feel sorry for the director Anderson and the Producer Bolt because once they try and talk about the production of the the movie, they get shot down the wonder twins of Milla and Michelle with hilarious outcomes. The Commentary is far better then the movie and is worth a listen.

I've listened to this track a few times now, on my initial listen I was really, really annoyed. Im a fan of Anderson's work and a fan of his previous commentaries (I think I had heard Soldier before this) so with this track - the chaos of Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez screaming about leather bra's, twat shots, armpits, German nightclubs and producer Jeremy Bolt' sister nipples got me a bit annoyed.

However, the more I listen to this track the more I have begun to enjoy it (I think Im up to x3 listens now) once you know what to expect it's no where near as annoying. In fact, given the right frame of mind, it can be really a lot of fun.

On a side note, Im still left wondering as to why Paul W.S. Anderson would have gone straight to the colour bars on the Criterion Life of Brian DVD, you would think that as a film director with lots of cash he would have paid for his setup to be correctly calibrated... or was he searching for potential easter eggs? Does Milla have ADD? It pretty much shows in interviews.

She's like a child who ate too much sugar.

I love Milla, she is gorgeous and incredible sexy in this film, but the one thing I can't stand about her is her voice. When she speaks in a movie, she puts on a soft sexy voice. But in real life, she sounds like a dim witted California girl. SHE TALKS LIKE THIS THROUGH OUT THE WHOLE TRACK AND IT GETS REALLY ANNOYING! Maybe if somebody came in and "Milla, keep your voice down!" She would probably would talk about quieter.

At one point she says she watches commentaries to movies before she watches the movie. Why would you do that, Milla? Why?

Michelle is no better. She talks about vulgar things. "I stick firecrackers up animals' butts." Charming.

Are they high, or do they think the CGI for the Licker actually looks good? Yeah, forget the giant cockroach at the end of Men In Black, this is Grade A effects work here.

Do they talk about the game it's based on? Sometimes.

They make fun of Eric Mabius, Milla complains about James Purefoy getting angry at her for accidentally hurting him and praise Colin Salmon for every scene he's in.

Maybe if Paul and Jeremy did this on their own, it would be good. But I don't want to listen to a track where people scream at the top of their lungs and talk over each other.

This is one of the first DVD commentaries I ever did hear, so you will have to excuse me if my review is at all biased.

First of all Milla Jovovich is brilliant in this commentary. She displays a sense of fun while watching it and it is easy to find yourself immersed in the commentary, as if the commentators are sitting right next to you watching the movie with you, rather than just talking about it at you.

You truly get a sense that Milla is a true Sci Fi and horror fan as, she doesn't yawn during the scenes that show "boring sci fi" stuf and gore, she really does get into it all. After listening to he commentary you feel that she doesn't always do Science Ficton and videogame movies because she is type cast into those roles, but because she really does love doing them.

Who ever said commentaries have to be hardcode looks into modern social science or anything like that anyway? This track is sitting down with a bunch of guys that acted in or worked on the movie, hearing what they loved about it and a very enjoyable experience. The "inside scoops" aren't delivered by some mind numbingly boring geek that is trying to cram in as much info as possible, they come up naturally in the conversation, again as if you were watching it with the cast and crew and they mention it because it sparked their interest or they wanted to talk about it.

This commentary is an extremely satisfying experience, a rare experience that unfortunately we do not see a lot of on DVD commentaries. So grab a pizza and a six pack, sit back and watch the movie with Milla and crew.

10/10

The commentary featuring Paul W. S. Anderson and visual effects supervisor Richard Yuricich is superb. I really enjoy Anderson's commentaries, but I especially enjoyed this one as he's in his film geek element with his FX hero Richard Yuricich.

The commentary if primarily about the special effects of Resident Evil, but there are constant deviations into Yuricich' previous work, such as Close Encounters, 2001 and Blade Runner - and to be honest, I wish there were more stories about Yuricich' previous work as he's had a fascinating career and has been involved in some FX landmarks.

A great commentary for fans of Anderson's work and a great commentary for anyone interested in special effects.

Most entertaining DVD commentary EVER! Not a lot of tech talk, but Milla and cast are a nonstop rush of jokes with on-set stories mixed in. Better banter couldn't be scripted.

Some of the above reviewers aren't in on the joke. Milla saw "entertainment" as her job for this commentary, just like most of her press, and takes full advantage of it at times being self-deprecating, teasing costars, doing voices, and playing ditsy. Milla's fun, quick wit and candor won me over. I've seen the commentary many times with friends who also love it, frequently saying "back that up. Did she just say what I think?" and "back that up. I was laughing to hard to hear the rest!"

Have some friends over (no catty females) and settle in for the Milla JO-vovich Improv Comedy show.
