As they attest while the closing credits wind down, Liman, Kinberg and Foster intended to talk about plot conceptions, adapting the YA novel and crafting the story. This is exactly what they do, and almost all that they do, only touching briefly on filming challenges in Rome and Tokyo. Mainly, they focus on elements they inserted, like the Jamie Bell character, or that they jettisoned to tighten the plot. They mention the goal was for a morally ambiguous superhero in Hayden Christensen, one who would not automatically be expected to make the right and just decision, with implications that the innate smarminess of the actor made him the best casting choice. They also speak of how placing Diane Lane and Kristen Stewart in small roles was an aspect of looking towards a possible trilogy of films. This is an informative commentary just not at all a technical one.
