What can I say, one of my favorite movies. Took me a while (ironically) to get my hands on the DVD, but I got it and I finally listened to the commentary by Noyce.

Very underappreciated in terms of audio commentaries, Noyce is, in my opinion, always engaging and always interesting. This track is no exception. Just like the "Salt" commentary he starts off with quite a bit of energy and he rarely lets up. He literally covers every important detail about the production and most importantly he reveals stuff that are not included on the Making-of videos and interviews.

There's a lot of talk about the characters and their viewpoints, the CG effects, how Denzel prepared for his role, and about the violence in the movie and out in the real world. Just like in the "Salt" commentary Noyce goes back and forth about his earlier movies and how it all affected - in one way or another - his work as a director and specifically "The Bone Collector".

Fortunately for me (a huge film scores fan) Noyce also talks about his working relationship with the great Craig Armstrong and what it was like recording that very memorable score.

Overall, a solid commentary from a director who knows how to keep you engaged. There's very little dead air, so it's all good on that front.

Check it out if you can.
