There are actually two commentaries on this disc, but this is the superior track. Even so, it is not the greatest. The other, a group commentary has frequent silent gaps despite the assembly of commentators. They mainly talk about improvisation, reactionary dialogue as scenes unfolded, and what the witting or unwitting participants in the film were told beforehand.

The solo track with Casey Affleck is the better listen but there is some redundancy from the other track. This one too is not without silent moments. Afflecks talks about the idea, intent, and themes of the film, as well as the motivations for the Phoeniz persona. He speaks to some of the critical and audience reactions. He recounts how the actors closest to Phoenix were selected with other skills in mind that would benefit the film while the players also served as crew members. Much of the film was shot out ot sequence - Phoenix has great control over his weight, offering the production the luxury to jump around in time. Affleck also reveals editorial choices and moments that were tweaked with ADR.
