This isn't so much a commentary as an interview by the same guy who asked the questions for THE CAR audio track, the most embarrassing commentary I've ever heard, as the director simply answers "yes" and "no" to nearly everything. Olsen is a much easier subject when it comes to talking and he has the advantage of not only being the writer for this film, but also the co-producer, so his knowledge of the filming process expands beyond the script. Among other things, he talks about the cast, the writer's strike at the time, and the reasons for changing the original ending. The most irritating aspect of the comm....INTERVIEW...is that it's conducted like a questionnaire with one question after another being fired off at Olsen to avoid even one second of 'dead air' - the interviewer really needs to learn to give his subjects space to ruminate and talk at their leisure because the overall effect is that it feels like 50% of this track is taken up by questions. Also, he gushes too much in awe of his interview subject, always complimenting his work as brilliant, great, wonderful and finally concluding "it's a masterpiece!" Settle down, buddy!

Agree with all the comments above but this is still a solid listen if you are a fan of this film, no stone is left unturned. A real shame Joe Dante has not yet done a commentary for this film, my impression is he has not done any of late. This commentary can also be found on the recent Arrow Blu-ray release along with new interviews with Joe Dante and some of the cast. 7/10
