I'm surprised that two years after Ray Harryhausen's death a new release managed to show up with him participating in a commentary - this had obviously been planned long beforehand (it is mentioned on the track that they are watching a pre-release version and that it "should look good on Blu-ray" when it's done). This is surely the last time he was recorded, and for that alone, this track is valuable. Otherwise, it's a pretty average affair - because Harryhausen is so revered and loved by film-makers, their audio commentaries generally consist of them praising his work throughout the running time. There's less of his FX work in this film than most others, and it doesn't kick in until after the first third of the movie, so it seems like the participants are marking time until then. Light on anecdotes and background information, but it's nice to hear Ray chuckle at things in the film which he has obviously seen so many times before, so I don't see any point in nitpicking.
