It’s a bit of a doozy at first. It sounds entirely as if he were reading the trivia section, stopping between factoids and anecdotes without relenting, doubting or even digging for words. Then you realize what a great speaker Wright is.
A stage writer mostly he is a man of words, a knowledgeable source on Sade but not as a biographer but rather as an interpreter. He has endless quotes to share, from the Marquis to others who inspired his work (Dali, Apollinaire, Simon De Beauvoir).
Some of the most interesting comments come from his candid recollections on set, his relationship with Director Philip Kaufman and the actors on this, his first experience as a screen writer. Highly recommended.
