Saved from the obscurity of Laserdisc Limbo, this commentary (and all FOUR hours of extras) made it to a Special Edition DVD. It's quaint to hear Jackson saying "I've never done one of these before" at the beginning, even though he's able to talk you through the film effortlessly until the end without repeating everything you've seen in the extras (that does not mean he avoids the distinctly Kiwi tendency of repeating the word "actually"). His style, however, is heavily geared towards "on set" facts: as each scene pops up he'll recall the shooting conditions and other miscellany directly connected with that day's work. What's missing to balance this is a more conceptual look at the film - e.g. where the ideas come from and how did it take shape? - but I guess that's just a quibble, given that Jackson is always an easy listen.
