A collection of different 'commentary personalities' provides a mixed bag for this track, but it's so rare to have Arkin/Falk on a commentary that their presence alone is a drawcard. Hiller provides all the information about the process of making the film; Arkin contributes observations and asks questions; Falk cackles with glee throughout, praising every scene and everybody. Bergman comes across as a bit of a background figure in the track (or perhaps I just couldn't differentiate his voice from Hiller's sometimes). Arkin, who rarely comments on his films - even his autobiography barely mentions them! - sounds exactly the same as he did thirty years ago. Falk, on the other hand, has a distracting gurgle in his voice, and he tends to ramble about favourite scenes long before they actually show up in the movie - however, this does add a random element in the commentary which keeps the whole thing fun for all involved.

One of my all-time favorite tracks. Four old pros, swapping stories. Educational and funny, and, best of all, it makes me love the film even more. Didn't think that was possible!
