It adds to the enjoyment and understanding of the film, but almost all the best parts are explained better in the 30 minute documentary found on the DVD. Some exceptions are the parts where the director explains how the lead came off too much like Sherlock Holmes, and they had to purposefully tone him down a bit. And talking about the real life people they had to leave out or merge into others.
